Concluding Remarks 2014 https://www.microbiota-ism.com/microbiota-uncatigorized-news/1139-concluding-remarks-2014.html https://www.microbiota-ism.com/microbiota-uncatigorized-news/1139-concluding-remarks-2014.html

The Ilogo-mito-group-text-V3nternational Society of Microbiota (ISM) published the final program of the 2nd World Congress on Microbiota which will be held at Pasteur Institute.

The ISM Scientific Committee highlighted the strategic role and vision concerning microbiota. ISM was born from the Japanese fermentation “know-how” and its ability to test and validate a scientific solution to aged population. The idea of ISM is to bring a new level of understanding of microbiota science out of the classical existing point of view.

The organizers of Pasteur Institute meeting divided their task force in four targets. Dr Marvin Edeas, chairman of congress commented: "...We need to reposition the global microbiota strategy: our task force proposes to analyze the metabolites first, reformulate later and provide it to people rather than providing the microbiota strain..."

Dr Edeas, who initiated the ISM Task Force, concluded, “…we cannot consider one microbiota strain can treat one precise pathology and fit with all population coming from different cultures…”.

Targeting the Science

More scientific research needed to profile and analyze the diversity of microbiota of each person. The sequencing of human microbiota progress and many innovations will be presented during Institut Pasteur Meeting.

We look to set up a kind of individual profile to be used as a biomarker of many chronicle diseases.

 Targeting the Diversity of Population

ISM will take on consideration the variability, the heterogeneity of populations and their diets.

Targeting the Industrial Translation

The industrial vision of microbiota must be re-designed and re-think.

“…we cannot consider one microbiota strain can treat one precise pathology and fit with all population coming from different cultures…”

The scientific committee of ISM will double efforts to better understand the quality of metabolite and undertake clinical studies with this metabolite rather the strain.

Targeting EFSA regulatory

How to explain the EFSA rejection of all claims provided by industries?

The industries and also the EFSA experts considered the gut microbiota science as a classical pharmaceutical science. While the science of gut and microbiota is a dynamic field, with a huge evolution and can be modulated by many factors.

ISM will bring this new dynamic point of view to accelerate the credible translation of this science into real benefit for the consumer.

A specific meeting with EFSA experts will be scheduled to share our point of view.

ISM offers a new platform connecting industries, scientists and regulatory bodies.
This platform is located in Tokyo.- Japan. The chairman is Yuki Ikeda.

Welcome Note - Targeting Microbiota 2014 https://www.microbiota-ism.com/microbiota-uncatigorized-news/1138-welcome-note-targeting-microbiota-2014.html https://www.microbiota-ism.com/microbiota-uncatigorized-news/1138-welcome-note-targeting-microbiota-2014.html

LogoMicrobiota2Dear Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to present you the 2nd World Congress on Targeting Microbiota which will be held in lovely Paris, France on October 16-17, 2014.

Microbiota as the forgotten organ

A large body of evidence show that a diverse population of micro-organisms lives in our skin, mouth, nose, lung and gut, where it plays a strategic role in regulating and possibly controlling human health, well-being, metabolism and diseases.

Microbiotas are maternally transmitted during birth and their composition is influenced by our environment and lifestyle. Intestinal flora is by far the best known microbiota composed of more than 1014 cells comprising 1000 different species representing a biomass between 1 to 2 kg. Microbiota has probably multiple functions. Its considerable metabolic potential originates from a very high number of genes (the microbiome), which includes unique genes and 150-fold larger coding capacity than the human genome.

The microbiota diversity, its evolutive dynamics and influence on host metabolism open unique opportunities for the identification of new markers of the physiopathological state of each individual. For these raisons, it becomes increasingly important to identify the composition of microbiota and the mechanisms that regulates the host-microbiotal crosstalk. Additionally, targeting microbiota with antibiotics, probiotic or even fecal transplants, aiming to alter the microbiota composition, is considered a promising strategy for the development of new solutions for the treatment of disease.

Mitochondria-Microbiota Crosstalk: The Intriguing Relationship

Interestingly, due to the prokaryotic origin of mitochondria, microbiota and mitochondria share commons features. From an evolutionary point of view this common origin may have strongly affected the functional interaction of resident micro-organisms with the host. Moreover, several decades of research on mitochondrial diseases have highlighted a wide and complex spectrum of effects due to mitochondrial impairment, with, however, still unclear links with the nature of affected tissues and organs. Interestingly, the mitochondrial spectrum of diseases for some aspects superimposes on the spectrum of diseases involving the microbiota. Based on these new advances, it becomes important to underscore the mitochondrial – microbiota relationship and possibly consider mitochondria as a particular component of the microbiota. This notion is particularly of interest also for future strategies aiming to the treatment of mitochondrial diseases.

During Targeting Microbiota 2014, we will discuss about the recent advances, implications, impact and perspectives of microbiota on health and diseases. Research in microbiota is a new science facing important challenges:

  • To date, the most relevant challenge: can we modulate and manipulate the human gut microbiota?
  • How diet, food, antibiotics, hormones, prebiotics and fecal microbiota can affect resident microbiota?
  • How is microbiota defined in health and disease?
  • What is the role of microbiota metabolism on host function and disease?
  • How do microbiota interacts with the host and which function(s) microbiota do control and regulate?
  • Can targeting microbiota prevent or treat inflammation-related diseases, metabolic disorders or CNS diseases?
  • Do mitochondria and microbiota cross-talk and interact?
  • How to avoid speculations and marketing on microbiota not supported by actual data?
  • Microbiota as biomarker: which signature? Impact on personalized medicine

Among Targeting Microbiota 2014 sessions:

  • Microbiota and Innovations in 2014 : Recent Advances
  • Microbiota & Biomarkers: From Predictive to Personalized Medicine
  • Mitochondria-Microbiota Crosstalk: The Intriguing Relationship
  • The Role of Microbiota in Health and Diseases: The Mechanistic Aspects
  • New Challenges to Prevent and Treat Metabolic Diseases, Cancer, Liver, Kidney, Lung and Inflammation-Related Diseases
  • Microbiota and Nutrition: Impact on Bioavailability and Absorption
  • Microbiota and Longevity: The Missing Link
  • Microbiota and Brain: Opportunity to Regulate Stress and Depression

A special session on Fecal Microbiota Transplantation will be held on day 2 : Practical Issues and Regulation.

A discussion will be held between speakers, scientifists and industry sector about Microbiota and medicine of tomorrow.

We hope that you will join us for this dynamic and strategic program and look forward to welcoming you in Paris.

Dear Targeting Microbiota 2021 Speakers and Attendees,

The 8th Word Congress on Targeting Microbiota 2021 will be held for now in a hybrid form on October 20-22, 2021. This means that attendees and speakers will have the choice to attend eithr in-person, in Paris, or online via the conference platform. In this case, the presentations will be submitted as pre-recorded videos.

2 workshops will be held on October 20, 2021:

  • How to Evaluate Skin Microbiota 2021?
  • How to Evaluate & Modulate Gut Microbiota?

These 2 workshops will be organized one day before the Targeting Microbiota 2021 conference, exclusively online. The workshops can be accessed on-demand for three months, starting from their date.

In these particular conditions, we decided to organize the meeting in Paris (France) & via a Platform. Below are some clarifications for the online option.

1 - The meeting will be hybrid: online & in-person.

2 - As a major speaker, short oral, and poster presenter, you will receive an email from us with a link to record your talk alone.

3 - Your talk will be added on the platform as indicated in the program, from October 21 2021 to January 13 2022. After this date, all communications will be removed and destroyed.

4 - Concerning the Workshops which will be held on October 20: Dr. Carole Niccp will talk online starting from 8:55 Paris time about the Gut workshop, followed by Dr. Florence Abdallah at 13:50 for the Skin workshop. Both workshops will be recorded and available on demand.

The totality of the recorded workshops will be available for 3 months.
If you did not already register for the workshop and you registered for the conference, please contact us to update your registration.

5 - For the online option, attendees can only watch the talk and will not be allowed to Register, Download, Transfer, or Record.

6 - You can leave your question in the Q&A section of the presentation and authors can answer directly via our Platform.

Prior to the Conference: How to prepare your recording?

- All Invited Major Speakers are being asked to record their 20 minutes talks via the conference platform.
- All Short Oral contributions accepted are being asked to record their 10 minutes talks.
- For a Poster presentation, you have two options:
  • Option A: Submit your poster in PDF format which will be added to the Platform.
  • Option B: Present your poster orally with a maximum 5 minutes presentation.
If you wish, you can send us both PDF Poster and Recorded Presentation

If you didn't receive the link to record your presentation, please contact us.

Conference Platform:

All contributions accepted by the scientific committee will be added to the specific conference platform prior to the conference, as indicated in the session of the program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Interactive Online & Live Congress?

An Interactive Online & Live Congress means that the complete congress will be held virtually and the totality of the sessions will be available to anyone who wishes to view it.

All attendees can contact and get in touch with all speakers, short oral and poster presenters and vice versa. As a result, all the online audience can come together, participate in the Congress and get the same experience and content by reason of the presence of Live Slots where discussions and networking will happen according to different time zones.

In case you were unable to participate in any of the interactive slots, the event will be recorded, and will be available on-demand after the event (for at least one month after the event) so you may watch it at your convenience, and as many times as you like to refresh your memory or study a particular talk.

Like the case of usual in-person conferences, these Interactive Online & Live meetings feature a keynote lecture, discussions by the chairmen and short talks and posters presentations showcasing cutting-edge, emerging, and unpublished research.

Know more about our Interactive & Live sessions here.

How will the schedule and programme be adapted to the online audience?

All sessions will be also recorded so that delegates can access the academic tracks either live or on-demand via the virtual platform.

For Poster Presentations: We ask you to record your presentation for 5 minutes and submit the poster in PDF Format via email.

How abstract submission and acceptance will change?

All abstract submission procedures will remain unchanged. All presentations will be submitted using our abstract submission system.

If your abstract is accepted, we will send a link to invite you to create a recording of your presentation or you can record your presentation locally and send us to microbiota (at) microbiota-site.com  The recorded presentation length will be of 10min for short oral contributions, and 5min for posters.

In the case of Poster presentations: After acceptation, authors should also submit their posters in PDF format to the platform.

Yes, it is possible and free of charge. However, you must submit a letter authorizing the transfer signed by the registered delegate two days before the event starting days.

What if unexpected restrictive measures are issued by French authorities impacting the authorised format and capacity of the event?

Due to the fact that the Congress is changed from Hybrid (in-Person & Online) to only Interactive Online, there are 3 options:

1) The organizing committee will refund the difference between in-person participation and online participation minus 5% for administrative fees.

2) You also have the choice to participate as an online attendee for Targeting Microbiota 2021 Congress and we will offer you a free registration for Targeting Microbiota 2022.

3) In case you already paid and booked your hotel and flight, the organizing committee decided to reserve a conference room in “Université de Paris” to justify your presence. However, there will be no in-person talks.

How the Sponsors will exhibit their products?

As an attendee, can I ask questions to the speakers?

Yes, the digital media platform offers a chat function where you may submit questions for the speakers. Speakers will respond to you on the spot if they are presenting live.

All speakers are included in at least one of the slots, so you will also have the chance to ask your questions and exchange ideas during these interactive & live slots.

You can also submit your questions in advance and the speakers will aferwards respond to your questions in the pre-recorded video.

If you submitted your question after viewing the presentation, the speakers will respond to your questions in the chat.

Additionally, each session will have a dedicated Chairman who can comment and answer your questions.

Can I ask questions to the poster presenters?

You can contact them directly using the chat function via the platform during and after the conference. You can also ask them your questions live during the slots dedicated to discussion & networking.

About the International Society of Microbiota (ISM):

International Society of Microbiota

The idea of ISM was born in 2013 by Prof. Marvin Edeas after the transformation of the Task Force Mitochondria-Microbiota to a larger group gathering all actors and experts working in the field of microbiota.

The idea is to bring a new level of thinking and understanding of microbiota science out of the classical existing point of view.

The science of gut and microbiota is a dynamic field, with a huge evolution and affected by multi factors.

ISM will bring this new dynamic point of view to accelerate the credible translation of this science into real benefit for the consumer.

ISM is a non-profit-making international organization.

The aims of ISM are to:

1.    ISM offers a new perspective and solutions for microbiota and health: the dynamic microbiota research,

2.    Advance the practical applications of microbiota and their metabolites in all related fields, with particular reference to health and nutrition,

3.    Analyze and provide recommendations to ISM’s members, health decision-makers and institutions about the last microbiota researches, uses and problems. This analysis will be done by international qualified team members of ISM,

4.    Encourage communication and interaction among researchers, physicians, nutritionists, industrials, food technology and strategic marketing managers through a global microbiota network, Increase integration and interaction of the various disciplines involved in microbiota fields.

5.    Prepare a standard for collecting, conserving, analyzing of microbiota

How to get to the Institut Pasteur?

By Metro

  • Map of the metro network
  • RATP - Public transportation official Website

Get off at either "Volontaires" (line 12) or "Pasteur" (lines 6 and 12) station. These stations are just at 5 minute walk from the Institut Pasteur.

You can buy tickets at the Metro stations, RER stations, certain RATP commercial agencies, automatic dispensers at Roissybus stops, RATP desks in Orly or CDG airports.

Ticket prices (same ticket for metro, bus and tram):
1 ticket T+ : € 1.70
Single-use ticket purchased onboard buses : € 2.00
Book of 10 T+ tickets (standard fare) : € 13.30

Note:
One ticket allows you to travel on the metro and includes all connections as long as you do not leave the metro network.
For most bus and tram routes in Paris and Ile-de-France, one ticket is valid for a single journey without connections regardless of length. On some routes (Balabus, Noctambus, Orlybus, Roissybus, 221, 297, 299, 350 and 351) fares depend on journey length.
